White Abalone, Haliotis sorenseni
The White Abalone is currently listed as Critically Endangered and has the smallest population of the eight North American Abalone species. This precious creature was once found in healthy numbers from Point Conception, CA to Baja, Mexico. Overharvesting has reduced their numbers to the point where they are so sparse in the wild that they cannot find mates. The UC Davis Bodega Bay Marine Lab's White Abalone Captive Breeding Program is working to restore the wild population through hatchery efforts. I created this painting in partnership with a private collector to help support the Endangered White Abalone Restoration Fund.
30% OF THIS SALE WILL BE DONATED TO THE UC DAVIS ENDANGERED WHITE ABALONE RESTORATION FUND TO HELP PRESERVE THIS INCREDIBLY RARE AND BEAUTIFUL SPECIES

Hand-signed prints are printed, inspected and signed by Nick himself. He then ships your print to our expert framer who mats and/ or frames your prints and ships them to you. All of this is done by hand with great care to ensure a quality crafted product. These are hand-made custom frames, hand-cut mats, and hand-signed prints, so they are not an off the shelf item. So that is why they take longer: 7-10 days turnaround time on the hand-signed matted & framed pieces only. These all ship via UPS Ground. If you have a rush order, a specific date you'd like your piece delivered on, or anything unique you feel you need to tell us, please note this in the Notes section on the checkout page and/ or Contact Us. Thank you for your patience with these hand-made, unique works of art.
My mission as an artist is to inspire an appreciation for and curiosity about nature and its creatures by communicating the aesthetic beauty of this planet’s amazing creatures as they really are.
It is my hope that this appreciation will result in acts of empathy & stewardship towards these incredible creatures portrayed in my paintings.
