Bluefin Trevally Original Watercolor Painting
Bluefin Trevally, Caranx melampygus
This piece was inspired by a pair of Omilu I saw while snorkeling in Kona. I was so struck by the blue color of their fins and their speed as they patrolled the reef drop offs. So when I sat down to create the studies for this painting I started with fluorescent colors and the results were way off. I studied my reference photos & studies for weeks and eventually realized how subtle the colors were, it was more the juxtaposition of the colors that made them pop. With this observation I created the final piece which I think captures the both the subtle and the saturated colors of this beautiful creature.
Hand-signed original watercolor painting on Arches watercolor paper. Price includes museum-quality framing including UV-blocking glass. The original painting's image is 27" wide x 13" tall and framed size is 36" wide x 23" tall.
My mission as an artist is to inspire an appreciation for and curiosity about nature and its creatures by communicating the aesthetic beauty of this planet’s amazing creatures as they really are.
It is my hope that this appreciation will result in acts of empathy & stewardship towards these incredible creatures portrayed in my paintings.
