Three Spined Stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus

This colorful little fish is a subject in many areas of scientific study. It is found all over the world and has much morphological variation among the different populations, making it ideal for studying evolution. Most are anadromous, living in saltwater but moving to fresh water to breed.
