Scup, Stenotomus chrysops
Also known as the Porgy, this is definitely a lesser known species despite being common along the rocky shorelines of New England. Most people that "know" the Scup want to keep them a secret. Scup Love, The Secret Scup Society. I don't know what it is about this fish, but he is modest, yet has a ton of charisma! This painting was a private commission modeled after a giant, grandfather Scup caught by RI commercial fisherman Cpt. Aaron Gerewitz. If caught on a rod & reel, this would have been a world record.

My mission as an artist is to inspire an appreciation for and curiosity about nature and its creatures by communicating the aesthetic beauty of this planet’s amazing creatures as they really are.
It is my hope that this appreciation will result in acts of empathy & stewardship towards these incredible creatures portrayed in my paintings.
