Today I'm treating you to some wild colors from deep in the Amazon jungle straight to the comfort of your home. Peacock Bass have to be the most beautifully colored bass in existence. To go with their electric appearance they are absolutely ferocious predators and will smash topwater plugs fished GT style. Nevertheless, they live in what many would consider the harshest freshwater environments on the planet and there is always a bigger predator . . . look closely at this specimen's 2nd dorsal fin and you'll see a perfect semicircular bite has been taken out of it!
This was a private commission for a client who frequents the Amazon's remote tributaries. I asked him if he wanted me to reconstruct the dorsal and he asked me not to, as the bite is a testament to the merciless water from which this fish came. Peacocks have two very different color phases based on their spawning and the yellow polka dotted pattern I painted here is called the Paca phase.
This painting was quite the challenge due to the intricate pattern & variety of colors. I painted the yellow color first as a base layer and then painted the blue-green, bronze & purple around the spots. There are a lot of layers on this one! Check out the print: click here.
Please reach out via email if you'd like to discuss your own commissioned painting!
