It's an honor to have my work in Fly Fusion Magazine. This is Canada's hottest fishing magazine and this issue is off the charts with stories that go along with this year's International Fly Fishing Film Festival. My illustrations were used in a piece by Bob Covey, Quest of Honour, about Joe Krzykwa's obsession to catch as many fish species as he can only on flies he's tied himself, quite a feat!
This issue also features an article by Tim Myers that tells the story of Ella, a dog that lives along the Margaree's Dollar Pool on Cape Breton Island, NS. I fished there with the legendary dry fly salmon guide Robert Chaisson who is highlighted in the IF4 film that accompanies this piece.
Get Jacked is another IF4 film/ magazine piece that promotes the Jack Crevalle as a species well-deserving respect. It's told through the eyes of fly fishing luminary Jako Lukas. I couldn't agree more. I first heard of Jack Crevalle when I was a kid reading Lefty Kreh's Fly Fishing in Salt Water where even back then he describes jacks as highly underrated species.
It wasn't until I was in my 20s working doing research on sea turtles in Costa Rica that I actually first caught one on a fly. I was blown away by their power, speed and aggression. They would race through the tubes of breaking waves to hunt sardines in the inches of water at the very edge of the beach. Once spotted, we'd make one false cast and then cast in the complete opposite direction of the fish since they were moving so fast, by the time the fly hit the water we'd almost miss them. In other words, we'd spot them all the way down the shoreline to the right and then cast down the shoreline all the way to the left in order to try and intercept them because of their incredible speed!
So overall this is a great issue, be sure to check out Fly Fusion and the IF4!
