What happens when science meets creativity? Our new partnership with the American Fisheries Society uses art to inspire a deeper appreciation for aquatic ecosystems and the life they sustain to promote conservation efforts.
The American Fisheries Society is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the conservation and sustainability of fishery resources and aquatic ecosystems by promoting science and developing fishery professionals.
As a former fisheries biologist, I have worked on many research projects across North America, from the icy waters of Alaska to the tropics of Costa Rica. I even got the chance to attend one of the annual AFS meetings when I worked for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife in 1993. To think that thirty years later I would be collaborating with them and using my art to help promote conservation is a dream come true.
I believe this partnership is a meaningful opportunity to show how art can inspire empathy for wildlife and support the conservation efforts of the AFS. Having spent a great deal of my life as a biologist and researcher, I understand how important it is to continue supporting organizations that protect our aquatic ecosystems. This is why I’m honored to commemorate the AFS’s top donors with more than fifty prints and use my artwork to help bring visibility to the species we work so hard to protect. I’m also ecstatic to have my work showcased on the cover AFS's brand new July magazine in addition to a feature article about my mission. I can't wait to continue collaborating with the American Fisheries Society and support their mission through art and conservation.
